What does Factory Reset do?
Ok guys....we have been telling you guys to do a factory reset after loading a new bin, as a matter of good programming habits, but many of you do not know why...so here you go...

A Factory Reset (or Factory Set) defaults all the settings in the receiver to the way it was when it left the factory. It does NOT change the bin file back to the factory file....it only resets all your settings like the time, location, antenna settings, channel lists, and other USER programmable functions to the generic factory settings. For example:

A d*sh using two lnb's and a diseqc switch to combine the signals:

Before Factory Reset: After Factory Reset:

Satellite....119 (or 110) Satellite....AMC 8 (or other fta sat)

Diseqc......Port 1 (or other number) Diseqc..........Off

I have posted the main things that change in this example......this shows you that you MUST reset your Diseqc switch setting to the right port for the sats you have. You will also lose all of your custom channel labels and other custom settings.

The majority of the posts having trouble after loading new bins is because people are NOT checking their sat settings again.

HINT: Once you have it up and running, write it down line by line, or take a digital picture of your screen so you can remember what the settings need to be to get your signal back after a bin update.

NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS IF YOU UPDATE KEYS ONLY.....ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT REQUIRED....IT IS SOMETIMES RECOMMENDED BY THE CODERS FOR YOUR UNITS, BUT NOT OFTEN. IF YOUR RECEIVER IS NOT ACTING STRANGELY, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO A FACTORY RESET. HOWEVER - IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SETTINGS AS ABOVE AND WILL HAVE TO SPEND SOME TIME REPROGRAMMING THE ITEMS LISTED ABOVE.

If you find yourself with duplicate channels, a factory reset, or factory default will be required, in order to clear the current Channel Database so that a clean scan can be performed.(thanks to Tech07 for additional info)
